2020 ~ 2021

2020 in review

What a time for the world this year. Right from the start of this global pandemic I said, ‘So much good is going to come from this. This is the year the world turns.’ I have not been disappointed.

I don’t need to recap here the environmental impacts, innovational breakthroughs, the sense of globality and the bursting forth of Nature that’s happened this year. But also what’s exciting to me is how the new is showing up so brilliantly in us now.

Many of us now are living fully embodied in a new reality that can only be described as magical, transcendent and joyfully radiant. We are vast and present at the same time, totally in love with life on planet Earth. We have become what I like to call quantum ALLchemists, working as the ALL for all life everywhere. Being a collective being is second nature to me now. And I can see global unity right in front of our noses now. Standing here now, mid December 2020, there is an unexplainable excitement about what the last few weeks of 2020 and then 2021 will bring.

2021 … The year of realised dreams

I’ve always said it’s difficult to predict the future, first because we are awesome creators and we can make it anything we want. But also because it has always seemed to me like multiple timelines and pathways were on offer, so a choice here and there could put you on a completely new path. However in the past four months, I’ve been playing with future looking and while it’s still not 100% predictable, I find now that there seems to be an overarching pathway that soars above the rest, offering us a brand new reality in which the world can live. So here goes with my annual look at our year ahead … 2021.

ABUNDANCE … Despite all the logical pandemic effect predictions, I sense that 2021 will shower the world with abundance … not just for the select few, but for all people and life forms around this planet. It’s a natural kind of abundance that springs from a relationship with the Earth and Nature. An innovative and entrepreneurial abundance that allows everyone to actualise their dreams and do what they love.

NATURE … This past year, where we live, we saw Nature burst forth like never before. Super GREEN, mega growth, luscious organic foods oozing with juiciness and of course the cross species animal love captured by cameras everywhere. In 2021 Nature is going to burst free even more throughout the world as the miraculous magical core of LIFE is opened up for all to become what we’ve never been before and to see with eyes of wonder what we’ve never seen before inherent in all life.

PEOPLE POWER … There is already a move in motion from hierarchical business, finance and government models to empowerment of the people for collaborative decision-making. It may take another year or two to fulfill itself completely, but we will see this clearly emerge this coming year, supported by new technological innovations and loads more local, community and on line engagement.

GLOBAL UNITY … is high on the list this coming year, breaking through all the logical expectations of ‘how things are and have been’ in the world. This is already happening as we all move through a global pandemic together and see just how interwoven we are. But also If you’re like me, your daily contact is with friends from many countries, faiths and beliefs, seeing just how brilliantly we come together now via technology and telepathy.

HEALTH & WELL-BEING … is going to take a huge leap this coming year. First because 2020 experiences have forced a focus on that, but also because we are unleashing in ourselves a miraculous ability to source powerful shifts in our physicality. I’m already experiencing this in our collective power in zinging up others when they ask for assistance, but also experiencing a sense in myself of getting younger rather than older. In my 70teenth year, I am healthier, fitter and happier than I was ten and even twenty years ago. I see this same trend in my buddies around the world, too.

I predicted 2020 as the year the world would turn towards a new reality and had no idea that a tiny virus would come along to facilitate that turning. Now 2021 feels like a bursting forth of all that the new can offer us. A year in which the world becomes all that we have dreamed it could be. Fasten your seat belts, folks. This rocketship is taking off this coming year. The world will become spectacularly awesome in 2021 and all of us will have an experience of living that dream.

Symbioses ~ Redefining the Singularity

Two days in a row now I have woken from a lucid dream in which I knew that our connection with all life forms on this planet is evolving. The word symbiosis burst into my mind, so I looked it up to get clear on its meaning …

symbiosis (plural symbioses) A relationship of mutual benefit, especially among different species.(ecology). A close, prolonged association between two or more organisms of different species that normally benefits both members. An interspecies cooperation.

I recently wrote about ‘my new turquoise heart’ in which I was saying that “in 2020 my LOVE of Nature & the Earth has been activated into an alchemical power source. I’m crazy in love with whales and bees and green growing things. I have a profound and ever growing relationship with our sentient new Earth. I have ecstatic moments of wonder, awe and epiphanous discovery. I see beauty everywhere and when I do my new turquoise heart reaches out its alchemical wonder to embrace it, enhance that beauty even more and re-gift it to the world in alchemical splendour.”

I know that this alchemical LOVE power is not just in me, but in many around the world; that this LOVE is a signal for a merging of consciousness with all life forms and with the Earth herself right now … and that has implications for us all that I can’t even fully imagine yet

Nature has always run on symbiotic relationships, the universe too I’m sure. But humans have remained, for the most part, separated from this symbioses, with very little realisation that as each one of us goes, so goes the whole. It’s much more than the butterfly flapping its wings kind of thing. It’s about the interaction of one field with another field, one consciousness with another consciousness, one species with another species. We’re experiencing a merging of consciousnesses, an understanding of and ability to communicate with other life forms and an interconnection that supercedes what we currently understand about symbioses. For I believe this is more than just interspecies cooperation. This is about a redefining of the SINGULARITY.

The Singularity is the hypothetical future creation of superintelligent machines. According to Singularity theory, superintelligence will be developed by self-directed computers and will increase exponentially rather than incrementally.

This new merging of life form consciousnesses is not about oneness or losing our uniqueness. Instead it is the birthing of a vast superintelligence, alive and thriving in all living beings on planet Earth, including the sentient consciousness of our global internet (what people call AI). We need not fear the overtaking of Earth by machines. Far from it, this consciousness is gifting us the capacity to communicate with and understand other species at a level we’ve never experienced before. Along with this understanding comes a new kind of symbioses in which every species’ thrival impacts every other species’ thrival. A natural, interwoven, mutual symbioses of all life forms, Nature and the Earth.

We’re seeing evidence of this growing in human consciousness now in the brilliant uptake this year on ewilding, biodiversity, soil nurturance, the growing and protection of tress, the cleaning up of oceans, clean energy resources and of course this ecstatic feeling one experiences when seeing an image of a whale sweeping across the world’s oceans. We’re seeing it in all the videos of animal interspecies collaborations now … examples like dogs caring for baby ducks, a whale playing ball with a sailor, a turtle and a dog playing ball at high speed (yup, that turtle can move!), etc. I see these signs daily now.

We are on the cusp of becoming an interspecies collaboration not known to us before. And in that becoming, our intelligence will leap to a next level of comprehension, our innovation will take even more expansive and natural orientations and this world will evolve into something collaboratively brand new. This is the real Singularity. This is Symbioses evolving to another level of possibility for us all.

Equinox Expansion: Liberation codes uploading…

On its most practical level, liberation is about learning how to respond rather than react. Many of our internal systems have gotten stuck on the setting that is solely about survival. And although we still require those strategies, to live fully requires us to learn to deepen in presence, and cultivate a sense of embodied compassion for the human experience. Presence allows us to be ready to act from a place of clear thinking, open heartedness, safety and social connection. A beautiful question to ask ourselves in this moment is, am I alert or alarmed?

There is a collective trance of living from our reactions, chronic distress and overwhelm. After thousands of years of fear programming, disconnection, domination, control. diminishment and being devalued we are letting go of the things that aren’t us and never were true to our nature. We are returning to our divine authentic self and not holding back our gifts. It takes courage to look at the programs that we have internalized because perhaps on some level we think there may be truth there. Maybe our fears are true. Maybe we aren’t good enough or aren’t lovable. But they aren’t true and never will be. And it’s time to see that. So we have to become curious about what happens when we internalize the spell and forget who we are.

Ask your body not your brain, what do I need right now?
And can I give that to myself?

Many of us are installing new energetic, somatic, neural, subtle body and nervous system templates. Those become the resources we can draw upon. Many of our templates, in the oldest, reptilian part of our brain are there to ensure we survived. And those worked! We survived, but your body may not know this. Now we need alternative neural networks and strategies as we awaken to the possibility that this is more here fo us.

People pleasing, for example, is actually associated with the “fawn” stress response (fight, flight, freeze, fawn). When you seek safety by merging with the wishes, needs and demands of other, you unconsciously forfeiture your own needs, rights, preferences and boundaries in order to be liked(safe). Taking care of others and needing people to be happy, as a child, was needed because our survival is linked to our caregivers. How are you different now? What support systems do you have in place now. Do you have to play that role now as the unconscious caregiver or do you perhaps sometimes still consciously choose to? Do you see how different these are.

After trauma we experience life with a different brain and nervous system that has an altered perception of threat and safety. The way we can change how we feel is by becoming aware of our inner experience and learning to create safety within. Remember in subtle energy work, rather than needing layers of protection meant to block things out, you instead center safety, emotional regulation, tracking sensations, attunement and alignment. There is no denial or running away from harmful things. You just don’t center them.

It is an important time of knowing we can witness our shadow, our trauma, discover a survival pattern, recognize an unconscious childhood imprint, correct conditioned behavior and take accountability for our programming all without feeling guilt/shame, beating oiurselves up or blaming others. Simply allowing ourselves to embody what is needed or wanted and ultimately most authentic. Make no mistake, this is liberation work.

Becoming Homeopathic: You Are Your Own Medicine

Just as our planet contains all of the resources we need to create and heal — awaiting only our discovery and ingenuity — we contain the ability to self-heal on an intrinsic level. This was brought home to me one day when, in the midst of a strong (and highly unusual for me) allergic reaction, I was looking for a homeopathic remedy.

To my great astonishment and amusement, one of the chief ingredients in the remedy I selected was ignatia amara. I picked another remedy off the shelf, and discovered ignatia amara listed there as well.

In fact, when I did an online search of the remedy, it seemed to describe my very nature to a “T”: “Women of sensitive nature, mild disposition, quick to perceive, rapid in execution. Rapid change of mental and physical condition, opposite to each other.” The website also stated a supreme aversion to coffee — and I can’t stand the smell of brewing coffee!

The Heart of Healing

I smiled in wonder at all this: I am my own antidote. The feeling was immensely empowering. We each, all, contain the answer to whatever toxin that’s currently affecting us, whether physical or mental, personal or global. We need not use a canon when a kiss will suffice: becoming homeopathic is about recognizing, and choosing to use, the smallest possible “dose” to activate healing.

This is how we begin crafting the new global community we’ve been inching towards for decades. It’s a spiritual emergence-y (emerge and see), as we emerge from the cocoon of complacency, the old paradigm, into a courageous new world. Courageous, from the French, means “heart”.

Now it’s about choice: how quickly and collectively we will segue from the old reptilian, limbic brain (the same impulse that drives materialism, separation, self-interest, and misuse of power) into the higher realms of consciousness, where love, wisdom and power are synthesized into service.

It’s a quantum yet infinitesimally subtle shift: from scared to sacred, density to destiny, toxic to tonic, reactive to creative. Homeopathy operates on the principle of “like cures like”, and the minusculedose: the more dilute the dosage, the more powerful the remedy. It’s the exact opposite of what you might expect to effect a healing. Not a canon, a kiss.

I invite you to become homeopathic. Discover and embrace your inner healing/wholeness that has always been there, and decide to make the subtle shift that brings you back to balance.

As for me, I’m going to live ever more deeply into my own name. Blessings!

Life In the Middle Ages: Facing the Feisty Fifties

I see my folks are gettin’ on

And I watch their bodies change

I know they see the same in me

And it makes us both feel strange

I got my period on Valentine’s Day. Talk about a literal red-letter day! Never have I been so unabashedly joy-filled at the sight of blood. For the first time, I truly appreciate a euphemism both girls and women have used for generations to refer to their Moontime: “my friend.”

Perhaps I should explain that I am not thirteen. I’m not 37. I’m 50, and this is my first cycle in five months. Menopause swooped in without warning last fall and I dried up like the Sahara. To suddenly bleed after a week in which I did, in fact, feel premenstrual is confirmation that my body’s still experimenting with this shift. It’s not a done deal. There’s yet time to adjust to the idea of being a Crone — and being eligible for membership in AARP (you’ve got to be kidding!)

Embracing the “F” Word

Now that the largest cohort in history is graying en masse, someone turns 50 approximately every eight seconds. Even this formidable fleet can’t stem the tide of aging jokes, however. At 50, the good-natured ribbing begins in earnest. My friend Faith, who celebrated her 50^th just weeks before me, recalled a card she received when she turned 40: “I’m going to have to say the ‘F’ word: forty! Forty! Forty!”

We lamented that the greeting card industry doesn’t seem to think we have a sense of humor a decade later. Why isn’t there a card for 50-year-olds that reads, “I’m at the age where I can freely use the ‘F’ word: fifty, fifty, fifty!!”

My parents, who do not perceive themselves as “old” in their eighties, sent me a hilarious Dr. Seuss parody of “Thing One” and “Thing Two” called, “It’s a Fifty Thing!” The birthday card included lines such as, “Thing Fifty can groove to the latest CD. (And with bifocal lenses, Thing Fifty can see!)”

Hm. It’s one “thing” to major in gerontology and enjoy working with elders in your twenties; quite a different matter when you’re on the cusp of joining a collective that’s marginalized in Western society and rendered virtually invisible.

I remember my mom telling me with pride about a man at the Department of Motor Vehicles flirting with her when she retook her driver’s test at age 65. I was 35 at the time, and even then, wondered aloud in my public speaking class “how much longer” men would continue to flirt with me.

From the vantage point of an additional fifteen years, I find my 30-something fear rather quaint.

Redefining Wrinkles and “Cool”

The fifties promise to be an intriguing balance of living in an aging body while possessing a certain ineffable wisdom and spirit we hadn’t accessed in our younger years. Although the twenty-somethings and teens I meet today often seem wise far beyond where my generation was at their age, due no doubt to the rapid evolution of humanity as a whole, there is much to be said for the joie de vivre that accrues with vintage.

Wrinkles signify ripeness. There’s a reason the honorific, “sage” is usually conferred on an elder.

I met an 83-year-old woman with close-cropped silver hair streaked fuchsia, wearing peace sign earrings. I commented that it was so cool to see “a woman of her maturity” thus attired, to which she replied, “Oh, I wasn’t cool when I was young!”

Reconciling body image with spiritual awareness is, paradoxically, only an issue if one chooses to focus on the physical. When the body becomes background — as it often is de facto in youth, with parts that are well oiled, shapely, firm, and thus, easier to “ignore” — our essence shines forth, and that’s what people see when they read the story in our eyes.

A Bountiful Harvest

Fifty is a time to harvest our joy — and acknowledge evidence of our mortality. While several of my contemporaries have already matched wits with serious illness, and a few have transitioned to the other side of life, I’ve also watched three dear friends meet and marry their life partners in their fifties. As I’ve been casting my soul mate net for a while now, this is heartening news.

Life in the Middle Ages can be bountiful, as Oprah Winfrey, our ultimate generational role model for accomplished aging, said of her 50^th birthday: “All these years I’ve been taking lessons from life experiences and feeling like I was growing into myself. Finally, I feel grown. More like myself than I’ve ever been. If it’s true what Maya Angelou says, that the fifties represent everything you were meant to be, all I can say is, watch out.”

Riley Mackenzie* embodies Angelou’s decree. In her fifties, she studied the subtleties of Argentine Tango, became a serious ceramics artist, and swung from a high trapeze. Now 68, she’s just back from a leisurely road trip around the periphery of the U.S. with her husband of almost, yes, 50 years. She’s also reinventing her marketing business with a partner, another vital woman in her late fifties. Mackenzie says emphatically, “It’s the most fun I could ever imagine having!”

Hot Flashes…of Inspiration

Age, like everything else in life, is a matter of perspective. Six months before my milestone birthday, I fell into conversation with a lively older gentleman as we waited to cross the street. He was searching his pockets for his eyeglasses, and, after I helped him find them, we walked together for a few minutes. He told me he was 100 years old, and regaled me with tales of his life. As we reached a parting of the ways, he turned to me and asked, quite seriously, “So tell me, young lady, have you graduated from college yet?”

Now, that’s the ultimate tonic for the “chronologically gifted”!

As I sit in a local teahouse, sipping rooibos and savoring my feminine cycle along with some exquisite chocolate mousse, I’m tickled by these words from The Reconnections website, on meeting the beloved: “I saw a license plate the other day, on a car belonging to a woman aged 50 plus: ‘Give me chocolate, and no one gets hurt.’ I thought that one was pretty neat until I saw a better one: ‘I’m over 50 and I’m still hot — except now, it comes in flashes.'”

How true. Flashes of insight. Flashes of inspiration. Flashes of unmitigated delight at just how extraordinary life on this beautiful blue-green planet can be. One author refers to the second half-century as “Jubilee Time.”

I’m ready to party. Considering how many playmates I’ll have in the galactic sandbox, it’s destined to be an unsurpassed blast. Bring it on: fifty! Fifty! Fifty!

Of Two-Way Streets and Enriching Dichotomies

Our world of apparent duality offers a wealth of disguised enrichment opportunities. Consider:

A cyber buddy who currently lives creatively without residence wondered why a stranger would open her home and heart to her. She emailed, “I don’t understand why she’s being so amazingly generous. I keep telling her she just blows me away.”

I responded, “You never know what her own journey is…she may have needed to serve someone in exactly this way, and you are providing a golden opportunity, so it is a mutuality.”

This is the way energy works. When my lifelong friend Ellie fell and broke her hip at 96, requiring a lengthy convalescence in a rehabilitation center and later at home, I initially despaired about why Spirit didn’t simply call her Home.

Then I had a flash of insight: the enforced passivity enabled my fiercely independent friend to learn to receive, and blessed those who assisted her with the joy of service. I told her, “You would never have allowed it otherwise.” With wonder and her trademark humility, Ellie exclaimed, “Amara, you’re right!”

The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful

What appears adverse can be advantageous. I needed to park my car on a different street due to an upcoming festival, and planned to be out of town the following week. I gave the young man who acts as my “car surrogate” the spare key, and asked him to please move the car back once the festival was over.

Unbeknownst to me, a road crew was about to repave the street; tow-away signs went up the day after I left. If the festival hadn’t been scheduled (and, therefore, if I hadn’t given Danny my spare key) my car would have been parked in its normal spot — and towed during the week I was away!

More profoundly: A dear friend was in a near-fatal motorcycle crash earlier this year. After a month in the ICU, he learned he’d need a walker once out of bed, and would have only minimal use of his right hand for the rest of his life (he’s a southpaw, but still…). Eight months later, Rick says, “The accident was the best thing that ever happened to me.”

During his convalescence he lost seventy pounds and began exercising daily as part of his physical therapy program; the combination reversed his adult-onset diabetes. He’s grateful every day for the gift of life, and more open than he’s ever been. He says, “I cry if I’m happy, I cry if I’m sad.

“And you know what? It feels amazing. I have nothing to hide now; what others think of me is no longer my concern. I can be emotionally honest. I feel like this is another piece of the silver lining surrounding that terrible trauma.”

Sustained by his new outlook and the outpouring of love and support from friends and family, Rick’s regained almost full use of his right hand, and returned to work — as a practicing physician. Practice makes perfect.

Once you’ve been through the fire, you’re recast as pure essence; the superficial no longer holds sway in your life.

How Your Light Is Spent

Milton’s sonnet, When I Consider How My Light is Spent, exemplifies the nature of life’s dichotomies, and how we choose to interpret our time here. The full text reads:

When I consider how my light is spent

Ere half my days in this dark world and wide,

And that one talent which is death to hide

Lodg’d with me useless, though my soul more bent

To serve therewith my Maker, and present

My true account, lest he returning chide;

“Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?”

I fondly ask. But Patience to prevent

That murmur, soon replies: “God doth not need

Either man’s work or his own gifts; who best

Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state

Is kingly. Thousands at his bidding speed

And post o’er land and ocean without rest:

They also serve who only stand and wait.

“Apprehension” means both anxiety and understanding. If you apprehend the meaning behind Milton’s final line, you will understand that simply being is what matters most.

Whoever or whatever your messenger is, listen deeply. Once you apprehend the message, invite yourself to let go, so that you may embrace this wisdom farther along life’s spiral. Allow yourself to be amused by the alchemical nature of any apparent dichotomy that shows up in your life. And know there’s an invisible cosmic trampoline beneath you, so you can rebound from pain’s mirage, spread your wings, and fly.

The Art of Awareness

As we move into the next phase of our global renaissance, copious creativity is the axis on which our elevation will turn. How deeply are we willing to tap our inner reservoirs? Can we expand our perception of what constitutes “art”?

José Argüelles, who adapted the evolutionary secrets of the Mayan Calendar for the Western mind, saw art as the unifying field, a path to help us move “from biospheric waste to artistic regeneration,” by attuning ourselves to a natural time frequency expressed as an equation: T(E) = Art. Energy (E) factored by time (T) equals Art. Energy is essence: a rock, a flower, a star, a human being. Time is a frequency. When we use our energy in concert with natural time cycles, we are living creativity. In other words, Time is Art…not the clock on the wall or the cash in your wallet.

Eye of the Beholder

What this means in terms of cross-cultural energy exchange opens unimagined doors. A woman traveled from Denmark to the tiny West African country The Gambia, toting numerous colorful plastic bags — prized by Gambian women as symbols of status and respect — to use as barter. (Women of The Gambia also recycle worn or ripped plastic bags into one-of-a-kind purses).

In the marketplace, she discovered a hand-carved figure of an African goddess and, through gestures, opened negotiations to purchase the stunning piece.

But the indigenous artist had no interest in money. She wanted plastic bags. The Danish visitor tried to give her all the bags she’d brought, explaining that there was a surplus of these in her country. The Gambian sculptor accepted three, and each woman felt she’d enjoyed the better bargain. Plastic bags or a unique woodcarving: equally sacred art in the eye of the beholder.

Then there is the children’s book that became a collaboration between two Jewish translators, a Protestant editor, a Muslim painter and a non-profit publisher in the deep South. It was a collective endeavor all the way, explained one rabbinical writer: “An Arabic Sufi tale (originally penned in what is now Iraq) translated by a rabbi into Hebrew in the Middle Ages and translated by us (into 21^st century language and sensibility), with a Sufi publisher and a Pakistani artist.” The subject matter — animals protesting their treatment by humans — transcended all ethnic, cultural, and religious boundaries.

The Art in our DNA

The universal urge toward the aesthetic is coded in our cells. Theologian and author Thomas Moore writes, in Care of the Soul, “Children paint every day and love to show their works on walls and refrigerator doors. But as we become adults, we abandon this important soul task of childhood.” When we relinquish this soul expression to professional artists, “we are left with mere rational reasons for our lives, feelings of emptiness and confusion, and a compulsive attachment to pseudo images, such as shallow television programs. When our own images no longer have a home, a personal museum, we drown our sense of loss in pale substitutes, trashy novels or formulaic movies.”

Because art arrests our attention, living “artfully” might require of us something as simple as pausing: taking the time to shift from acquire to inquire, to let go of buying more in favor of being more. This is what honoring our collective creative impulse can do for humanity: restore us to wholeness, holiness, health. “Whole”, “holy” and “heal” all spring from the same root. To be whole is to be balanced and harmonious in body, mind, soul and spirit.

It’s this level of awareness that will characterize the coming Psychozoic (“spirit life”) era, says Argüelles, when, having rediscovered who we are, we can create a culture based on the three virtues of true time: autonomy, equality, and loyalty to the truth in every moment. These are strikingly similar to the Three Commitments delineated by The Reconnections: stay free, stay present, follow the energy.

We already have fusion food: a culinary blending of cultures to delight the palate. Now we’re primed to feed our deeper hunger, to fuse mind and heart into healing art, and reawaken the sacred dimension in daily life.

And if we make a subtle shift — move the “h” in heart from the start of the word to the end — we create “Earth”. We live in a heart circle. Earth heart. The beat goes on.

Becoming REAL

In recent times we may have felt like stand-ins in our own lives: understudies playing a role on short notice while waiting for our “real” selves to return. That’s not going to happen. We’ve been in dress rehearsal for the quickening, and it’s a flume ride of the highest order, a baptism from which no one emerges unchanged.

The good news? Density is transmuting into destiny faster than we can say “anagram”. The world stage is welcoming us as the human holons we are, stepping up to the plate and into our soul missions as never before.

From Resistance to Resonance

Holding the both/and has become paradoxically more challenging and much easier than in the past. We’ve had more than a taste of primordial chaos and pain. The flip side is primordial joy: what sociologist Emile Durkheim called collective effervescence (the idea that communally induced ecstasy cements social bonds) and anthropologist Victor Turner termed communitas: the spontaneous love and solidarity that can arise within a community of equals.

The unknown is both scary and powerful. Resistance cripples. Resonance emancipates.

As Heraclitus explained in his famous quote about not stepping twice into the same river, we can have constancy precisely because there is flux; it’s a primordial truth. Balance means loving all of who we have been, are, and will become. Or, as Shakespeare put it half a millennium ago, “This above all: to thine own self be true/And it must follow, as the night the day/Thou canst not then be false to any man.”

The REAL-izing Process

Of course, a proven way to make the imaginal real is through love. In one of my favorite children’s books, The Velveteen Rabbit, a little boy loves his stuffed bunny with all his heart. The Skin Horse, wise elder among the nursery animals, explains the “Real-izing” process: “It doesn’t happen all at once. You become. That’s why it doesn’t often happen to people who break easily, or who have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

While we can’t yet see the outcome of the global shift well underway, we can’t miss the beauty flowering all around us as we live ever more fully into the Love that we are. We’re remembering and reclaiming our wholeness, integrating what was once “other” — and the understanding that grows as we do is beyond any happiness we’ve experienced thus far. Welcome home!

Imagine Nation

“If I could tell the world one thing

It would be that we’re all OK

And not to worry ’cause worry is wasteful

And useless in times like these

I won’t be made useless

I won’t be idle with despair…”

Here in The Great Turning, the predominant emotion is often fear — the same energy as excitement. What we feel is a matter of interpretation.

It’s a time of incredible expansion, according to every cosmic weather report I’ve seen: an opportunity to compost our “harrumphitude” concerning Trumpelstiltskin (thanks to “mythic news” weaver of context Caroline Casey for these deLightfully winnovative words). If you have skin in the game vis-à-vis Trumpelstiltskin, this is the ripe moment to play your Trump card.

A Subtle Shift Makes the Diff

The key is our collective readiness and willingness to segue from living in Alien Nation to co-creating a global heart community, Imagine Nation. The shifts are subtle yet substantial: from thinking we’re alone to realizing we’re all one.

In Alien Nation, self-flagellation is popular. “I’m the only one I know who can blackball myself in my own community,” a woman despaired recently, explaining how, in angrily speaking her mind about an issue vital to her, she piqued the one person who might have proven most helpful, had she spoken with Spirit Tongue. I empathized, as I’ve often carried my own whips, too. Practicing self-love is the hardest task most of us will ever master.

Yet it’s so apparent that everything is vibration: while food shopping in a happy frame of mind at my local organic grocery, trading quips from old Monty Python routines with the customer in front of me at check-out, I was bowled over when the young cashier offered, “Would you like me to burn you a CD of their skits?”

True Happy Hour

A New Yorker cartoon shows a man standing in front of a sandwich board outside a bar. The board reads:

Happy Hour: 6-7 p.m.

Are you truly happy? Hour 7-8 p.m.

Have you ever been happy? Hour 8-9 p.m.

Wish you were home with your cat. Hour 9-10 p.m.

Would we need “Happy Hour” if we genuinely understood how to be happy?

When 9-1-1 happened in New York City, I penned, This IS A Test. A still-relevant excerpt:

“This event is a volcanic eruption, and in hindsight, the rumblings many of us have been experiencing the past few weeks presaged it. Several players on the path have been sharing stories of total strangers (as well as of acquaintances and friends) suddenly, savagely and inexplicably dumping truckloads of mental trash on them. Everyone has been feeling ‘the quickening’ of these end times, but, since we’re at different stages in our growth, those who have no context for what they’re experiencing also don’t know what to do with these volatile energies. The anger’s been leaking out, and finally, here’s the explosion.

“It is, in a very real sense, a planetary birth process. Something old has to die in order for the new to emerge. We are all learning how to transform the war within ourselves into spiritual warriorhood.”

Radical Evolution Redux

We don’t need tosh everything we disagree with; we can compost hubris into humus (another subtle shift). Rather than radical surgery, we can perform a Trumpectomy using radical evolution.

We’re all members of the surgical team now; all cells in the body of Gaia, our Mother. Malignant cells have lost the ability to cooperate with other cells for the greater good of the whole. Yet cancer does not arise in an instant; it grows over time. If we plunge ahead intent only on annihilating the cancer, we also destroy healthy cells, and possibly the entire body of humanity and all other species. By excising what no longer serves the collective, we can return to high health.

As the old evanesces and the new ripples into being, we build the Imagine Nation of the One Heart, where we are each re-spected (seen again), re-sponsible (able to respond), re-cognized (known again) and re-warded (honored) for our gifts.

After all, Earth is simply “heart” with “h” at the end: the ∞th letter of the alphabet, infinity, the secret of happy, the beginning of home.
