Eastern wisdom, Buddhist and Hindu themes, prolific enlightened faces, ornately decorated sanskrit patterns, these are the visual themes that surround the work of street artist Cryptik. There is a message behind his work: Love, Wisdom and Unity. We are all a united collective consciousness of people living a journey filled with a purpose known to those awakened and unknown to those asleep, but a purpose none the less. His artwork speaks to those who follow the greater mysteries of the world. Realms of existence and states of being that unfold before your very eyes when you listen, look, and pay close enough attention. We all have the power of the transformative process within, venturing out into the world to take control of the human experience and live knowing that in every moment there is the opportunity for enlightenment.
Cryptik uses popular figures, archetypes and themes in his artwork such as Bob Marley, Ganesha, Gandhi, the and Bodhisattva. He work is a representation of universal concepts portrayed in the likeness of circular patterns with lettering and characters to represent the cycle of life and infinity. The lettering and calligraphy he choses in his pieces reference Sanskrit, Arabic and Hindu and other ancient forms of writing. Stylized in English, the writings read as a mantra, spiritual quotes, and Buddhist. He poetically inspires beauty and calmness with a strong lean toward Eastern philosophy, the sacred, the occult and esoteric knowledge, to create a dialogue, tell a story and more importantly to inspire curiosity. Having more questions than answers has lead him lead him further down the path of expressing his artistic talents.
Born in Hawaii and raised Catholic, but never really a practicing Catholic, his desire to find purpose and meaning was subordinate to the needs of western upbringing. His dedication to his artwork was simply a quest to find himself through the creative spirit. Sometimes college, career, friendship, and marriage doesn’t make sense, at least not in the way our culture packages it to us. We thus search beyond these limitations and we begin the journey inward to find purpose, deeper meaning, an infinite oasis of self discovery. Cryptik’s art is a way to Ascend into the metaphysical world with accessible art for those who appreciate the spiritual journey. His work can be found at yoga studios, on bumper stickers, on t-shirts, skateboard decks, phone cases, tattoos, bandanas, murals, scrolls, murals, even a Guy Fox mask. At his art shows he provides sticker packages or other affordable art alternatives to those who can’t afford to purchase a print or canvas. There was once a time when he was approached by a family who had never been to an art show gallery or museum. They expressed their appreciation for one of his pieces, telling him how it comforted them and inspired them in their difficult lives. This was worth selling more than 50 canvases for Cryptik, because that was the goal of his art… to change lives. You can follow more of Cryptik’s work at: cryptik.com
